Re: Hangs while adding cue points

I have reinstalled GoldWave, rebooted, and did a few other housekeeping things. Now it works again.

Thanks for looking into it.

Re: Hangs while adding cue points

I have rebooted a few times since this started happening. Just now I uninstalled and reinstalled GoldWave. Added a few cue points and got the same error.

Hangs while adding cue points

I am trying to add cue points by playing back a file and pressing Ctrl-Q when the play head is at a point where I want a cue. I've done this before but in the latest version (v6.77), after about 10 points, GoldWave shows a blank error message and becomes unresponsive. The audio file keeps playing an...

Remember last "order by" setting

Really enjoying the Android app. Feature request: In the Open... dialog there are several useful options for sorting the files. I wish it would remember the chosen settings from one invocation of Open to the next. My preference is (usually) for Name, reverse order. It's a nuisance to have to reselec...

We should have asked the question "optimal for what purpose?" 128kbps is certainly better than 64kbps, but may result in a larger file than you'd like for a podcast, for example.

64kbps is a good bit rate, but experiments I've done indicate that 44100 Hz is the (marginally) better sample rate.

Why not also a free donation from time to time? DougDbug makes some good points. The simplicity of the current business model has a lot going for it. There seems to be a lot of good will in the user base, so maybe the donation idea would work. Chris could choose to weight the opinions of donors mor...

It seems like only long time GoldWave users dislike it. I'm with Chris on this issue. I'm a long time GoldWave user, but I'm also a user of various other audio/video editing programs. The click-and-drag selection and persistent cursor behavior are more like the way other programs work and improveme...

You said it well, TinPanFan. I'd be happy to pay a reasonable price for an upgrade. We all know how the economics of software works. If Chris stopped improving the product that would be a different matter, but he continues to make it better and we want him to continue doing that.

A text file can be handy to use as a least common denominator format for interchange with other programs. For example, I sometimes generate a text file from a regular sound file to import into Excel so I can prototype algorithms.

These are all good improvements, even if I do have to retrain my fingers a little bit!

One wish list item: I would really love a way to drop two cue points at once, one at the beginning and one at the end of the current selection.

Oops, never mind. This is an effect of the new persistent cursor. This message clued me in:

Drop cue in 5.22

Has the behavior of drop cue changed in 5.22? It now puts the cue point at the beginning of the file instead of the start of the selection.

f(x) to fade applause

This is a solution I want to share, not a question. It might be useful for anyone who needs a long fade. I bought Keith Jarrett's The Carnegie Hall Concert recently. Great album but the producers made the decision to leave in an insane amount of applause. E.g., 2.5 minutes after a six minute piece. ...

@DougDbug: Cute trick with the reverb! I'll have to try that sometime. Re the noise reduction, it is awesome and GoldWave does a really nice job of it, but sometimes I really just need a noise gate. I work with a lot of audio that I don't create and the quality is, ahem, variable.
