Could just choose select view, then the green button would play from the start of the new selection. And you can use edit markers to set the end marker to the end of the recording (specified at the bottom of the window). You're probably resequencing the tracks. In any case to reproduce the cd, seamless and all you might want to just run a 1:1 copy.

I just select the gap and delete it so the two wav ends are joined. Generally I'd have to zoom in as far as possible to remove the silence.

Just a thought - if it is constant, which I don't think it is for your case, you could try Effect, Filter, Noise Reduction, average 75% or light hiss removal and see how it sounds. You'll definately want to try a different tape player.

Probably since the sound happens with your sound card recording input, you'd want to look for an updated driver for your sound card? You could also try using a different jack - there is usually a second input than microphone - the pops might go away if you used AUX Input or Line In.

If their device doesn't match the windows standard, the problem will present itself no matter what software you're using to record. Makes sense to me anyway.
