very basic mic recording question

Hello! I've been using Goldwave as an editor very happily for some time. Now I need to do some live recording from a mic direct into Goldwave. I don't really care about sound quality honestly, it's just speech recording. But it has to be FAST --virtually immediate turnaround from laying down the tra...

thanks! So what happens with the filenames for these sound files? I've been digitizing a large collection of tapes, and will soon do the same for LP's. tI've had to put in really long filenames to get both artist and song information in there. I suppose I should rename them since that information wi...

Thanks for the lead on recommended software, but (newbie here, I have to ask...) how do I actually use this? I've been looking at several websites for tag editors. While all of them sing their praises, absolutely none of them give me any instructions on how to use them, which leaves me pretty confus...

ID3 tags when digitizing vinyl and cassettes

Hello! I'm digitizing a large collection of vinyl and cassettes and I would dearly love to find a way to speed up the process of entering track information, in a way that would be usable with a media player like iTunes. I did a search on this forum on the subject and the most recent thread I could f...

Thanks so much for putting so much time into your very detailed replies. I really appreciate the help. I just finished with my clients for the day and finally had a chance to try your suggestions. I went through them all one by one, and still couldn't get it to work. There was only one thing in your...

OK, now I'm really confused. I managed to record one cassette with a single channel. I got okay sound, enough for transcription purposes. I figured I could keep doing that on the low priority tapes until I get a reply about my stereo problem. So I started another tape, expecting the same. But now I'...

only one channel recording

Hello! Well after a whole lotta tralala, I'm finally starting to digitize my collection of audio cassettes. I'm starting with tapes that don't need pristine sound quality (just sketches of ideas for compositions, meant for later transcription), rather than more important recordings. I'm doing this i...

removing noise from LP's and cassettes --easily

Thanks. I do hear you on the value of doing the job right. As it happens, I'm just really pressed for time. After I get these cassettes done, I have a couple hundred LP's to digitize. Meanwhile, I've got a file drawer of music scores to scan into my notation software. Gotta do that in order to make ...

removing noise from LP's and cassettes --easily

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked up DePopper and it doesn't mention another feature that I'm looking for: automatic track detection. Both Spin It Again and Wave Repair do that as well as remove noise, but apparently DePopper only does the latter.

Anybody else have any opinion on them?

removing noise from LP's and cassettes --easily

I've been getting ready to digitize a large collection of LP's and cassettes. There are posts on this forum that talk about noise reduction, in a tone that sounds very "pro-audio" --and frankly very time consuming. I'm not trying to turn these recordings into anything perfect. I truly don'...

automatic track detection --digitizing LP's & cassettes

I've seen lots of software out there for digitizing LP's and cassettes. One of the features that they list is automatic track detection, in order to split albums into songs. It would save me a great deal of time to have software do this, rather than have to go through it manually. I already have Gol...

recording from minidisc --help for a novice

Hello! I need to transfer sound recordings from a Sony minidisc Walkman MZ-R30 to Goldwave. I used to do it on my old computer and it worked just fine. But the friend who helped me set it up has since moved away. I am now on a new computer and I've been trying to set it up, but no matter what I try,...
