Re: I still think Asio is a great idea

I've never quite figured out why people like it so much as an audio interface standard. For us, it just works. We have musicians plugged into the I/O directly and through 50 foot XLR cables. We've had up to 12 musicians recording at one time with the hardware ASIO set to a low 256 samples and we've...

Re: About Stereo vs Mono ....

I'm a journalist and interview folks (usually one person) -- I had HOPED to use my excellent GoldWave software and plug in two microphones, putting the interviewee on stereo-right and my voice (separate mic) on stereo-left -- and mix the two as I record. Please tell me there's something obvious I'm...

Re: About Stereo vs Mono ....

@ ... Why record something if you'd rather not want people to detect it Absolutely correct, Jack! Most of our tracks contain no more than 5 or 6 instruments. This allows us to focus on each instrument and bring out the best distinct sound possible for each. Trying to mix more instruments becomes a n...

Re: About Stereo vs Mono ....

you've got 7 or 8 mics on your drums; you can pan each each one around to give your mix a bit extra depth. Yes, great point. We have 6 on the drums and we pan out the toms and snare or other percussion. But the 'whole' drum sound is still coming from the 'center' and 'behind' the other instruments ...

About Stereo vs Mono ....

This topic may be of interest to those of you thinking about recording and mixing music. When we produce music in the studio, we arrange it as if we're creating a stage performance. Literally. There's a left/right sound (stereo imaging) and then there's a front/back sound (depth reverb) . In the mix...

Re: About creating audio loops ...

Since most of what I do is simple straight voice, Love the narration samples on your site! Hope you're doing well. As for Chris and Goldwave, I keep an older version on a laptop for when I have to record out of the studio. I must have a dozen audio editors but it's Goldwave I always come back to fo...

Re: About creating audio loops ...

I visited your website... nice stuff! Thanks for the kind words. I'm not a musician. Can't play a note. I just set the tempo and style then arrange the performances of the talent I hire. It's better than greeting customers at WalMart. BTW, I'm surprised most posters here who are new to creating mus...

Re: About creating audio loops ...

It doesn't happen all by itself -- we actually have to make a little effort. Not much, just a little -- and it's kinda fun. Fun? For me, it's like going to the dentist. :D But I digress. It's nice to see you and Dew and Doug still haunting Chris's forums and helping users out after all these years....

About creating audio loops ...

Goldwave and all wave editors for that matter, can cut a section from an audio stream. The trick to looping is to (a) keep adjusting the start and finish so that it loops seamlessly and to (b) make sure nothing crosses the Zero point at either end or it will pop and click. There is nothing automatic...

Re: How to improve voice recording?

it is a compressor: Behringer FBQ100 Automatic Feedback Destroyer, Integrated Microphone Preamp, Delay Line, Noise Gate and Compressor. Would it be better to buy this one with the mic and the headphones instead of the M-Audio Pro? That's probably hardware you're looking at. Don't bother. You can do...

Re: How to improve voice recording?

M-Audio Vocal Studio PRO Complete Vocal Studio Package featuring Pro Tools Express For what you're doing, this is adequate. Make sure the mic points to the corner of your mouth about 2 inches away. This will avoid a lot of pops and whistles and give you a cleaner signal. Learn how to use the compre...

Re: How to improve voice recording?

I am wondering if I could improve the voice buying a better equipment. At this moment I have a USB headset. Is this OK? Somebody could recommend something that could really make a difference? I just record my voice, but compared with professional recordings it sounds pretty bad. Look forward to fin...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

What they were actually talking about is the 24/32-bit floating point audio that most editors use internally for effects and processing. That doesn't "clip", and in fact can go something like 20dB over clipping before you max out what 32-bit FP can do; We record 24 bit with a 32 bit float...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

And, then when I'd get familiar with the record and all of the clicks pops, I'd be waiting for the click... knowing exactly when that click was going to hit... instead of enjoying the music. LOL! I forgot about that part. What we did in those days was soak the vinyl in warm soapy water to get rid o...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

@ ... BUT, with CDs, it's sometimes like finding a needle in a haystack to find ideal remastering. To me, the early CDs sounded like nobody new what clipping was. I think I read somewhere that clipping wasn't an issue in the analog world. All the early CDs I own are horribly clipped. You can see it...
