Re: Gratitude for years of Goldwave use

I love my v5.70!!
I see Chris went with the 64 bit flow, 32 is more than fine here. Posting youtube music, mentioning GW.

Re: Speed Change, Something So Frustrating

I jumped the gun, Dew. Such subtle differences between the two versions, not enough to make interesting stereo.
Worth a try :)

Thank.

Re: Speed Change, Something So Frustrating

... Or is that 25 to 400 value in Time Warp actually 25 to 400 where 100 means no change? So if I wanted a 2 % change in speed, I'd enter 102? From what I hear, unsynced, this should work nicely!

Speed Change, Something So Frustrating

Have two mixed of an old 60s tune, mono only. I thought why not sync the two. Opened Audacity for a simple speed change of one track, make one faster or one slower, I don't care, minor difference. But it ignored what I wanted. Then I open GW with it's Time Warp. Hoping to plug in a percentage value ...

Re: OT: A Note to Chris

When I discovered what I could do with GW, when I used the "toll" version a decade+ back, the CD files began sounding more like what I experienced on vinyl records! I stayed up all night GW exploring, was too tired to go to work the next day! :) Some people make it evident what their goal...

Re: Left Channel EQ CHANGES VOLUME?

"Pete, I'm finally catching on! Thank you for clarifying! I seem to recall hearing that FM Radio initially started out broadcasting Classical music. And even though stereo wasn't very popular back in the late 50's, you can find stereo jukeboxes being advertised in Billboard Magazine! I'm not h...

Re: Left Channel EQ CHANGES VOLUME?

OK, Jack, I have to clear up my overly general statement about how old my stereo sources are. Sorry about that. I know that FM stereo broadcasts didn't arrive till some time in the 1960's. What I have is some live material that was probably broadcast in mono but exists also (in private hands) in st...

Re: Left Channel EQ CHANGES VOLUME?

Excellent question, Pete. I have come across "brick walled" waveforms, increased key frequencies, then Maximized the waveform, the away went the brick walled look! Maybe the dominating high frequency(ies) was holding everything else back from being Maximized, why the (majority of the) wav...

Re: Left Channel EQ CHANGES VOLUME?

Thank you, DougDbug for this explanation. Phase shifts seems to be the key though I wonder how my ear perceives such things? From your explanation, is it possible that applying any kind of EQ could result in slight change in the dynamic range in the track? I went back and re-tested the EQ process w...

Re: Left Channel EQ CHANGES VOLUME?

Phase shifts seems to be the key though I wonder how my ear perceives such things? You generally can't hear phase shift (of an all-pass filter)* or the resulting peak changes. Although you might hear it if it's only in one channel... For example, if you flip the phase (or polarity) by 180 degrees w...

Re: Left Channel EQ CHANGES VOLUME?

Here's another single channel editing question. I used the Equalizer in Goldwave to reduce the treble in a single channel. I was surprised to see the wave form's size increase. I would have thought it would be reduced in volume. For example, I have a track length of 7:00 minutes and a left channel,...

Re: OT: A Note to Chris

Before working on GoldWave a couple of my hobbies were playing the piano and creating simple games (things similar to Breakout, Q*Bert, etc.). For the game audio, I created a function in assembly language similar to the PLAY statement in GW-BASIC , which could play simple tones (beeps) for music. A...

Re: GOLDWAVE BEGINNER HERE!

That's nice, Jack. You told me everything I needed to know with, "Not like anyone will miss a some milliseconds of sound." That established your credibility. The pros I know use programs like Izotope RX, Sequoia, and CEDAR to do serious audio editing. Goldwave has its place, and does a lo...
