Use cue points
You would want to do (or try) this using cue points. Basically you would open up the cue points dialog (Tool -> Cue Points) or I have a button on my toolbar. Then select the Auto Cue button and set the parameters probably using a "find silence" strategy (problem I can see - between "t...

Backups
I too recently got a 500gb external hard drive and have had intermittent $MFT errors also - what is it with these things? I've googled and found loads of problems, no real solutions. Best I've tried involved buying a new USB 2.0 card, now backups go fairly smoothly. Also downloaded a Microsoft patch...

Drop cue
The behavior of the persistent cursor was modified from 5.22 to 5.23 so upgrading to the latest version might make a difference. I'm at 5.23 and here is what I've found... I may have some setting(s) which differ from yours, but as I'm testing with a record window using Ctl-Q drops the cue point wher...

Vista
This might be a Vista (by design) problem, Meliska posted this link which I think is still active and might help you: http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/01/15/how-to-enable-wave-out-recording-in-vista/ As DewDude420 said, I think there are other posts about the subject which you could search on, but ...

Export mono
I think you could cobble together at least conversion to 2 wav files, but it would take 2 batch passes over your stereo files. This assumes you're a bit familiar with the batch processing function of Goldwave. Select the File | Batch Processing, then under the Process tab, click Add Edit. Drop down ...

Scroll Lock
Ok I knew there was a post which covered this somewhere - you can do a forum search on "scroll lock" but I think the way you toggle in 5.22 is to drop down "View" and check/uncheck "Auto-Scroll Lock" to get the window to follow the cursor or not. I can't verify this not...

Scrolling window
I'm not exactly sure I'm understanding you, but having the window follow the cursor continually was controlled in v 5.20 and earlier by setting the scroll lock key on the keyboard. Then as the cursor reached the right hand side of the window, the window would jump to the next section. I think in 5.2...

I second
Just to add my vote for making it optional if at all possible... I understand that you are going to address the "flickering" or barber-pole effect in the next release, but for me I still would prefer the option to toggle off the persistent cursor function. I actually did revert from 5.22 b...

Possible new driver solution
I've been researching this problem as well because a Dell laptop received by my daughter for Christmas seems to be having this same no "what-u-hear" capability in WinXP. I located this fairly recent post which may offer a solution. I haven't tried it yet but probably will, just be sure to ...

I'm not sure what version it was, but Chris did have an issue or two with the control window functionality when it was in docked mode which he fixed. I don't think it was as far back as 5.08 though. You might try checking out and possibly updating to the newest version and see if that makes any diff...

What I Use
I store a lot of voice-only as MP3 and based on no scientific theory or algorithms whatsoever, just based on what sounds "ok" to me and is fairly small, this is the setting I use: Layer-3 ACM, 22050 Hz, 32 kbps, mono. I think the ACM has something to do with the encoder - maybe that the Fr...

Persistent Cursor
Yes I'm afraid I have to agree. I like and use most of Chris's enhancements (and the ones I don't are just beyond my skill/need level) and he does a terrific job keeping Goldwave current and state-of-the-art. The persistent cursor is probably a great enhancement for some users, but I admit I haven't...
