Second question first: the Real splitter is a DirectShow "filter" that enables Windows apps to play/edit Real audio formats outside RealPlayer or Real Alt. Really! lol Re: compression - it was ok for its time, but Real's main strength was the ability to stream media, using "stub" files. (Those are t...

For those of us who have old files in that format, the splitter alone is a godsend. Hey, I used Real back when WMP was inferior, & my company bought Real Producer for me to transcode videos for the Internet....Now I can import & improve the audio on a lot of old vids of my band, wedding outtakes, et...

You may have recorded the WAVs at different settings in GW than in the other program. WAV format is a container, & WAV files can have many different attributes & use many different codecs. My hunch is that you're recording at a higher resolution in GW...for instance, you may inadvertently be using 2...

Sure! Here's how I'd do it: I'd load each file into GW, carefully trim the gaps at the start & end of each mp3, save each track as a 16-bit/44100 wav file, then use GW's File Merger tool to combine the resulting files (in the proper order) into one big wav...then I'd burn that to a cd. I'm sure ther...

Sorry about your losses, pal. Thank God you were able to save that drive...when friends/family ask me why I'm so nuts about backing everything up, I tell 'em the horror stories of people who DID lose their lives' work....they are, of course, properly mortified, but evidently not enough to do backups...

Check your Startup files...if you have an instant messenger program that does voice chat (or a voice chat prg like Ventrilo) loading at startup, it may be automatically selecting the Mic input for you when it loads.

Doug, as usual, is correct. There's no way to make a wav file loop over & over independently; that is, on its own. Looping is a function of whatever program you're using to play the file, rather than the file itself. Re: waiting for help on forums - a good rule of thumb is to wait at least a whole d...

44100 16-bit stereo is the way to go. There's no quality improvement when you save 44100 audio at a higher bitrate, regardless of format.

I went looking for a source for the wrapper I use, & couldn't find anything...so I went to my archives (being a nut about backing up does have its advantages!) & found it. I'll pm the info to you, Don. Update: I didn't realize that PM's are disabled here....until now. Please e-mail me at "stiiv at s...
