Re: How best to remove 'cough' from recording
Maybe you can replace the 'couge-clip' with a good clip somewhere from the complete recording. But you must carefully listen if the replacement works, because it must be almost 1:1, else you can hear it. In the past, I had likely the same problem, spend days and hours, with a nice result. Nice sugg...

Re: Stereo Panning
Others say, stereo panning is becoming a thing of the past with more recent songs. I agree! I'm not sure what that means... Panning is a normal part of almost every commercial recording. But, it's usually solo-mono tracks with each instrument/vocal panned somewhere between left & right across t...

Stereo Panning
You suggested, but it sounded like it wasn't worth the work. Little did I know, Chris added a "Pan" function under Effect drop-down menu -> "Stereo" features. Within a minute I had what I was always looking for. Applied it to this fine Kinks song with traffic intro. I did, howeve...

Re: Dynamics
Jay, so sorry for referring to you as Doug. I guess my age is showing, beginning to worry me! :? Thanks for the info!! Appreciate it! Wish I could find that defunct "Mastering" site, that's where the two Sony machines were mentioned. Attempted to contact author, but e-mail dead. I find all...

Re: Dynamics
I'll just say this on dynamics and older CDs: Older CD's usually have more dynamics, even though they were sometimes sampled with those kind of lousy 80's ADCs. The reasoning for this is basically...they didn't have the ability to tightly control volume levels using things like digital limiters. Al...

Here's an "Amplify Light" example. Out-Take #7 of a big 1959 hit (I love Big Bands)... http://www.angelfire.com/empire/abpsp/images/macknife-7s.mp3 http://www.angelfire.com/empire/abpsp/images/macknife-7s.mp3 I first L@@K at the waveform, this alone tells me if an Amplify Light move is ben...

Re: Dynamics
I'm GUESSING you can manually do what this "Light Amplify" does, but it would take a lot longer. I mean, if audio is not strong enough for me, I go Peak hunting, and trim them, to raise RMS value. Why I never did like "audiophile" material, they preserve too many "Peaks&quo...

Re: Dynamics
The graph shows you what it's doing, so nothing propitiatory... ;) The X-axis (horizontal) is the input (or before) and the Y-axis (vertical) is the output (or after). It's a sample-by-sample operation (i.e. 44,100 samples per second for CD audio). A straight line is normal amplification or attenua...

To Chris: I don't want you to give away any propitiatory information, but on a layman's level, can you give me a clue what the "Amplify Light" does under Effect > Dynamics? Why I ask, it can turn some dull sounding early CDs into impressive sounding. It's one feature I'd pay an arm and a l...

Re: why is history (undo steps) clear after save or saveAs ?
hi, Personally, i consider it as a bug : once you save or saveAs your edited file, the history of "undos "is clear ! you can't step back ! why ? it is so unfair. it is not a normal behaviour, specially without warning or alert message. I checked the documentation, and nothing is written a...

Re: Best practice to eliminate hiss from old VHS source
I have a newer dvd source which came from television or vhs or similar where hiss is very audible. Is there a best practice way in Goldwave to eliminate it? There is a hiss filter as I recall. I've owned the program for a long time but only have occasion to work with audio periodically. The source ...

Why I Like Goldwave
I'm using early versions; don't care to upgrade to newer Microsoft lame operating systems. Anyway, some disagree with me about varying DC Offset. Was nice to find a Automated way of correcting varying Offset included with Goldwave. Assume this Offset occurs when mixing tracks (both analog/digital wo...

Re: Problem with playback of mono files
Oh, and I should have mentioned it's a Goldwave only problem, vlc plays it correctly (both sides). You created this mono file? Stereo tracks play fine through both sides? With speakers and this mono file, same sound out of just one speaker? Not that I have any answer, just gathering information. Jack

Re: Gratitude for years of Goldwave use
I'll THIRD that!! Even though I use Goldwave unprofessionally, it is a joy to hear how it can enhance the sound of early audio CDs! About the time MP3s were making their appearance, a (WI) friend told me about Goldwave, maybe 2002? I used it even with it's TOLLS limitations. I finally felt the devel...

Hey, not a lot of time to search during work!Tristan wrote:"...can I still get v5.7??"
It took me less than 10 seconds to find it on the download page.
Thanks!
