Re: Thanks, Chris & Goldwave!

I'd like the Parametric EQ graph to have a black background, so I could see the red and green channel lines easier. I can get a black background with every other effect but Parametric EQ, for some reason. I find that very irritating. I know your point. I turned of the grid in the main window, so I ...

Thanks, Chris & Goldwave!

I enjoy reading some of the suggestions here (Doug, Gord, ++), and investigate them and/or other hidden "goodies". I found the Reduce Peaks to be of value, though I use it gently. Anyway, maybe a possible feature addition in some future version... Would like a real-time (Parametric) equali...

Re: General Programming Comments

Chris, any plans to add a Tempo change, and maintain pitch to GW?

I wanted to change the tempo of the opening drum portion here; make it a bit more believable as a studio intro, even though it uses (3) CD tracks!...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

Another example of modifying the sound of early CDs. This one is from 1990 [Steve Miller, Best Of 1968-1973]. Back then, you'd wonder if a simple graphic equalizer was available. Most CDs, back then, were SPARS - AAD. I'm guessing, digital audio software was hard to find/costly, and/or computers wer...

Re: Ripping + Shape Tool

In essence, you have to choose whether you want a consistent "default" setting, or one that restores the "mess" you used the last time. You can't have it both ways, so that's why the recommended approach is to keep a consistent and reasonable default setting and then create your ...

Re: Batch-processing silence to start/end of tracks?

Assuming that you want the final files to be MP3 files then the answer is "no". GoldWave will decode the original file, apply the edits you specify, and then re-encode the file as a new MP3. By all accounts that final re-encoding will degrade the quality of the audio to some extent (altho...

Re: Ripping + Shape Tool

"Update default effect settings after each use" option under Options > Window".... I THOUGHT I had done that! Maybe I'm losing it! :( It's like, the Parametric Equalizer thingie, if you switch types (10, 5 band, etc.), it defaults back to a flat setting - but the Shape tool is stubbor...

Ripping + Shape Tool

I have an old Acer laptop. It seems to have a USB CD/DVD drive. Goldwave can't access. Work around? Not a BIG deal.

Shape Tool (Volume). Is there a way to reset that (default) to flat line? Selecting default just brings back my mess!

Thank you!

Re: latest LAME encoder?

In GoldWave try Options | Plug-in | File | GoldWave * , then select the "Very high quality" option for MP3 encoding quality. Chris Wow! I hope that works! Thanks a million! Was considering RazorLame (front-end) With the help of GW, a quick touch-up with the Parametric Equalizer, removed t...

Re: latest LAME encoder?

I have a question!!! Okay, I want to make the best sounding, low bit-rate, MP3s. While using AudioGrabber (MP3 "ripping" utility), I set the Lame Quality setting switch to q=0 (best), I think the default is q=2. However, I see no way to set Lame switches in GoldWave or Audacity. Can this b...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

Hi Doug, Thanks for your input and information! I'm ONLY as good as what my ears can hear and remembering how stereo mixes once sounded. No doubt, artists like Blood, Sweat & Tears, Billy Joel, even The Statler Brothers, they saved those multi-tracks. When Sony issued their [gold kt.] Mastersoun...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

@ ... BUT, with CDs, it's sometimes like finding a needle in a haystack to find ideal remastering. To me, the early CDs sounded like nobody new what clipping was. I think I read somewhere that clipping wasn't an issue in the analog world. All the early CDs I own are horribly clipped. You can see it...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

@ .... Many want to "hear" music as they remember it once sounding. When I first digitized my tape/vinyl collection many years ago, I spent weeks removing the pops and clicks and hiss. Then I EQ'd the tracks and made them sound better than originally recorded which wasn't hard to do. But ...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

I was born in '46 and grew up listening to Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Elvis on cheap transistor radios and warped 45's and 78's. It was great. It didn't matter how the music was produced because we just didn't care. If you could jack up the volume past 10 and dance to it, it was a hit. Fas...

Re: how to remaster a song, give it a fresh sound ?

Maybe just some bad CD material, but I'm a firm believer, if great sound, then low bit rate MP3 will still sound fine. However, if some harmonic distortion or other, MP3 encoding at low bit rate will sound poor! It's how I gauge purity of sound. "Sounds fine" depends on your definition. I...
