One thing that will work is to use flac format. This is what I do. I use Exact Audio Copy to extract the audio from CDs and encode the results in flac format. It automatically adds the tag info, and this is preserved by GoldWave.

Re: Newbie

I used to simple move the lines at the front and back of the sound window to what I wanted to cut. It would be highlighted. Now I can't get whatever you call the beg/end lines to stay where I put them. Take a look at Options -> Window -> Miscellaneous. If you check the box next to "Use left an...

Check your setting under Control properties -> Play tab -> Green play. It sounds like it's set to "cursor." If you change it to "selection," it should behave like you want.

Goldwave will open flac and m4a; I've not tried mp4. It doesn't save in m4a format. With flac, you can edit and re-save as much as you like without losing quality due to repeated compression, since it is lossless compression.

It could well be the drivers for your sound card; some let you do this, while others don't offer the cabability at all. There are programs that will let you record streaming audio... both Total Recorder and VAC work well -- better than any sound card drivers I've tried. http://software.muzychenko.ne...

See my post regarding hidden devices in Vista and see if that helps.. you can find it in this thread: http://goldwave.ca/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2498

If not, you can use various programs to record digitally. Both VAC and Total Recorder work well in Vista.

Re: Selecting a Selection...

Left-Click anywhere else the previous selection points get mangled - this is slightly annoying, say if I want to "check" (as you do) a sample further in the track, but don't want to wreck the original selection. What I do is use GoldWave's "Store" feature to save the selection. ...

There are many different programs that deal with pops and clicks. Everyone has their favorites; I use DC6 along with GoldWave, but there are many others. I recommend searching this forum, and doing some general internet searching on the subject. One thing I've found that's true of audio restoration ...

Do you know where this can be downloaded? The file seems to be missing from every place I've tried.

Re: stuck in stupid

I want to keep the beginning to a certain point, and from the bridge to the end. I want to eliminate what's left in the middle between those two points. The simplest way to do this is to select the part you don't want to keep, and press Delete. This takes care of the edit, but will probably result ...

This is set up a bit differently in Vista. The 'Wave out mix' and similar devices are often disabled by default. To enable them: Go to control panel -> hardware and sound-> sound -> and click on the "Recording" tab. You will see a few choices here, probably microphone and line. To see othe...

Interesting discovery you've made. This might explain why I often get a pop/click when I use the graphic EQ on only part of a file. The noise happens at the beginning and end of the area I've selected.

One thing you can try in Goldwave is its Compressor/Expander. You first need to lower the peak level to give yourself some headroom, something like -6dB for starters. You can then play around with the Compressor/Expander, using "Boost loud parts" preset as a starting point. The idea is to ...

If the disc is burned with CD-Text, it contains the disc title and artist name, plus the song titles, and artist names for each song on a various-artists compilation. You might not ever actually see this information, however. First, not all burning applications implement CD-Text, and not all of the ...

Finally had a chance to try the programs linked previously...

WaveEmph reads the audio files okay, but crashes with an overflow error every time it tries to actually process a file. SoX (http://sox.sourceforge.net/) works quite well; the results sound correct.
