Re: The 6 Control Volume inputs

Line-in is usually best for a preamp. The "What U Hear" input can be used to record Internet audio. It lets you record what you would hear on the speaker/headphone output. TAD-in is for a Telephone Answering Device to record telephone conversations.

Re: extracting wav from avi

GoldWave can read audio in video files, such as AVI, MOV (old ones), WMV, and possibly MPEG video, provided Windows Media Player can play them.

Re: I too have the problem

Does pausing and resuming recording manually several times work normally as well (try holding down the Ctrl+F7 for a few seconds after starting recording)?

Re: Re-saving MP3 files - repeated compression?

The same degradation occurs with audio formats such as MP3, Ogg Vorbis, WMA, MPEG4. When such a file is opened and saved, some quality is lost. If you close, re-open, and re-save the file, more quality is lost. However, if you do not close the file, you can save it many times in GoldWave without cum...

Re: Could not open avi files

AVI files containing MPEG2 compressed video may not work in Multiquence on some systems. Try using a different video format when recording the AVI if the Hypercam software allows it.

Re: Timer Recording

Be sure to do pop/click and noise reduction filtering before using the Auto Cue feature. Depending on how much background noise there is, you may have to raise the threshold setting much higher.

Re: Creating new sounds in DVD 24/96k format, and saving the

For new files, the status bar shows the default save format. Internally GoldWave stores audio as 32 bit floating point data, so the bit depth shown in the status bar (and when creating a new file) is irrelavant until the file is saved. The only setting that matters for recording 24 bit quality is &q...

Re: Editing Cds - Taking out Profanity

Try selecting the word and using the Effect | Stereo | Reduce Vocals command. It will have some effect on the music, so preview some of the different presets to see which one works best.

Re: Timer Recording

Since the sound hardware is the same in both cases and I have not been able to duplicate the problem on different hardware, it strongly suggests a Realtek driver glitch. Does it matter whether or not the "Monitor input" recording option is checked? If anyone reading this topic is having th...

Does recording start if you click the record button again while the timer is active? If not, there may be a problem with the sound driver. Even after installing SP2, you may need to get driver updates manually. Also try starting recording manually, pausing it, then restarting it. Some sound drivers ...

Re: difficulty storing WAV file

Right-click on the duration item in the status bar to see the length and size of the file. If you created a large file initially, you may need to trim off any trailing silence (use Edit | Trim after recording).

Re: Timer Recording

Make sure the entire file is selected before you start recording (use Edit | Select All ). Unless you have Unbounded recording enabled, then recording is confined to the selected area only. If you stop the timer before recording starts, the selection will be zero length. Also make sure that the &quo...

Re: Maximizing in bach processing

The MP3 format is not a lossless format, so exact peak levels are not preserved when the file is saved. If you use the Maximize effect, save the file, close it, then reopen it, you'll find that the peak is different, just like in batch processing.

Re: Invalid floating point operation

It is caused by the GSM encoder performing a bad mathematical calculation, then leaving the math processor (FPU) in a bad state when control returns to GoldWave. Using Start | Programs | GoldWave | GoldWave Setup and checking the "Fix damaged FPU state" option may help.
