Re: Industrial Application Frequency Removal

Greetings I am new to GoldWave and would like to use it, if possible, to remove certain frequency sounds, so that I can detect the presence or not of other sounds. Roller bearings will emit high frequency sound when damaged, but on this one piece of equipment, where steam is injected, these sounds ...

Re: DC Offset

I made a crude drawing of DC Offset.... http://www.angelfire.com/empire/abpsp/dcoffset.gif Asymmetry isn't exactly the same as DC offset. Some sounds are legitimately asymmetrical. True DC offset will show-up during silence. IIRC, GoldWave's old offset correction would sometimes introduce a DC offs...

Re: DC Offset

Jack, I do a lot of vinyl "ripping" as you put it LOL. I have found that it is more so the turntable that is the culprit for the 30Hz noise. Do a test, I presume you are using a TTable and a mixer/pre-amp to provide the signal to your pc and in turn Gwave. First turn pc on start GW start ...

Re: Stereo Panning

I then want to select a segment of R track and silence it or decrease its amplitude, but I want to copy just that segment onto L track, in sync with R track. You can select the segment, then use Effect | Stereo | Channel Mixer . You can set the left channel to have 100% of the right channel and set...

Re: Stereo Panning

Sound's good Jack! Thanks, Doug. It's just a shame I can't get anyone to write about these "multi-tracks", in a music related publication. Many untold stories could be told. For example, The Romantics sued others (studio musicians?) for recording their, "What I Like About You" (...

DC Offset

First off, thanks for all the suggestions for Stereo Panning, I didn't know many tools were available in GW! Thank You!! I made a crude drawing of DC Offset.... http://www.angelfire.com/empire/abpsp/dcoffset.gif You might say I'm paranoid about DC Offset (constantly checking while enhancing audio; ...

Re: Stereo Panning

Doug (thanks!), I'm working with a mono drum track, but want to fabricate another track with bits and pieces of the mono drum track. This way, I can create the stereo panning (or the effects) I need. I just tried, for the very first time, using the Marker control, where I can save and recall a selec...

Re: Stereo Panning

Doug and Dew, thanks for the suggestions. I don't want to elaborate on what I have - it's a gray area. Maybe I can ask what I wish to do and maybe you can guide me. R = Right; L = Left Let's say, in GW, I have a single R track (Drums), I want to create another track of identical length, no content (...

Re: Stereo Panning

Thanks, Doug!! I'll investigate some things you suggested, anything helps. Some multi-tracks I found, one track is littered with little blurbs, that's where the drums pan or shift to left/right. Always thought it was done with an array of microphones, maybe sometimes, but not always. Maybe you can b...

Stereo Panning

I don't think GW has any easy tool to do this, but I'm open for suggestions. I guess I can do it in Audacity, but a little awkward. Anyway, if I have two stereo tracks, I want one track to fade as the other increases with the same content, such as panning of drums. I always thought "cross fade&...

Re: Best quality to save to?

Doug wrote: The guys who do blind listening tests have determined that "CD quality" is better than human hearing so if you downsample from higher resolution to 44.1kHz/16-bit, you won't hear any difference (in a proper scientific blind listening test). But, what we tell Neil Young with his...

Re: Dynamically Lighter Than Light

This is nice information!!! I appreciate your help! I use(d) this for early CDs (mastering). I swear it made CDs sound like what I'd heard on vinyl records that I admired! Have a great weekend! Best, Jack -- Follow-up: Without internet access, I played with this. As I quickly learned, and I assume i...

Dynamically Lighter Than Light

First, under the Effects > Dynamics > Amplify Light, what am I looking at in the X & Y axises? Is there a way to modify the Amplify "Light" to about (maybe) 1/2 it's value? In other words, sometimes the Amplify Light is a bit too much and I want to lessen it. I think it's one of GW bes...

Re: Save As problem

If you've set a default format for Save As (under Options | File Formats ), that is used. If you save a file using attributes that change the number of channels or sampling rate, but don't reopen the file when prompted, then the old attribute are used next time (not the new attributes). Chris Chris...

Check the answer here and see if it helps: http://goldwave.ca/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4190&p=17924#p17924 "will apparently override the "smart" handing that GoldWave attempts for file types Chris mentioned above". Thanks, Gord! I'm not sure what is set to what, but it...
