Re: Live recordings from same source hit or miss...

I strongly doubt your problems are related to Goldwave. More than likely you are either feeding a line level source into a circuit intended to amplify a sound (line level is already "hot" and requires no amping up) --or-- you may be experiencing some "RF" which is outside radio f...

Waaaay up top, click "Tool" and then select "Control". If I understand you correctly, that should solve your problem.

Re: Putting cursor where you want it~

Joan, I never tried Cool Edit, but I've tried a few others and this is the one for me. Goldwave is the best deal in town for what we do. I have recorded a half dozen or so audiobooks, all of them using Goldwave.

Hi Joan -- It's been a while since you and I have crossed paths, I bid you welcome to the Goldwave forum.

For those unfamiliar with Joan, she is a popular author who has books available in print as well as in audiobook form, and if I remember correctly, Joan also does professional voiceovers.

Re: Making my Song Edits sound better in Goldwave 5.67

If you cut something or drop the volume, you create a "bump" in the music. One thing that comes to mind, if you don't want to "beep" or "duck" the offending word with the Censor tool, you can highlight the offending word and then reverse it. Select the offending word or...

Re: Help/New User - Adding Warmth to Live Concert/Female

The recording was probably done using a poor quality mic and you can only work with the information that has been recorded. You can't enhance whatever is not there. Female voices generally fall somewhere into the 200 to 1,200 khz range. There are usually harmonics in the 2,000 to 12,000 khz range. P...

Re: GoldWave v5.64 Beta

Goldwave what hardware do you recommend that supports a wide range of sampling rates before I go out and start spending money. There are a great many very good digital audio devices available. If you want one for general everyday use, many find the cards that fit into your computer case to be the m...

Re: Distinct Stereo Sound?

It's possible that your cables are not stereo connectors. I'm guessing that you are using a "Y" type cable, with a left and right channel RCA connector at one end and a single pin connector at the other. Look at your single pin and see if it is mono or stereo. If your cable is delivering a...

Re: How do I isolate vocals from background audio?

Sandman -- In general, for female voices the fundamental frequencies should be in the range of 200 to 1200 Hz with harmonics in the 2 to 12 kHz range. In general, for male voices the fundamental frequencies should be in the range of 90 to 500 Hz with harmonics in the 1 to 12 kHz range. You will prob...

Re: Unable to even out Sound Levels

Goldwave has a wonderful tool built in that just may do the job. It's called "Autogain" and it works very, very well. Make a copy of the file you need to improve and put the original away. Open the copy and try the Autogain tool using the preselected settings and see what happens. You may ...

Re: smallest file size

16 bit mono, 56kbps is what radio stations often use for their podcasts.

The quality is high enough that you will probably not notice any degradation in sound, lower values may result in a loss of quality.

Re: How can l remove the pop/click at the end of a recording

Once you have recorded your track, zoom in on the last few seconds of it and look for the spike which denotes the offending noise. It's also good practice to do the same thing at the front end. Highlight the offending noise and then choose whether to simply delete it or mute it.

John -

Do not use your original file for processing. Once you save it, make a copy, put the original away and process the copy. That way, if you make a mistake, you will not have dealt a fatal blow to anything vital.

Re: Need Help/tips on making a radio drama with Goldwave.

You've just received some good information from some people who know their stuff. I will add that much will depend on your willingness to experiment and learn. If you think you are just going to sit in front of the computer and everything will just happen on it's own, you will be disappointed. I hav...
