V 5.7

I really enjoy 5.7, I guess that's when all the cool Stereo manipulating was added, such as raise vocals (Stereo Center, I believe it's called). That sounds like it'll come in handy; did some quick testing. My question, will 5.7 run on XP Home? Never mind, GW Help says it will (I hope)! I have an in...

Things I Like About Goldwave

Recently, I had a very nice CD recording of a favorite song, it actually sounded like it was remixed (not from vinyl). Anyway, there was a consecutive tick and a much louder pop sound. I knew GW could easily remove the tick sound and it did, but I had doubts about the severe pop noise. I gave it a c...

Re: About Stereo vs Mono ....

I'm a journalist and interview folks (usually one person) -- I had HOPED to use my excellent GoldWave software and plug in two microphones, putting the interviewee on stereo-right and my voice (separate mic) on stereo-left -- and mix the two as I record. Please tell me there's something obvious I'm...

Re: Flac to MP3 convert distortion

If I convert to wav first then to mp3 the file is fine, distortion gone. I tried a FLAC to MP3 convert n Cloudconvert.com and it worked fine. The problem must be a gain setting somewhere in Goldwave batch convert. I'll try the Taudio program. Thanks I do all my stereo (multi-track) mix-downs to 24 ...

Re: Flac to MP3 convert distortion

When I convert flac files to mp3 using the batch converter, the mp3s are unlistenable -- sounds like some serious clipping going on, especially on the bass. I imagine there are settings. Suggestions? Can you tell us what song from Flack you're encoding to MP3? If not, can you create a Flack snippet...

Thank You for the Auto DC Offset Removal tool

As you may remember, I'm paranoid about DC offset, it bugs me when I "see" a VU bar rise when it shouldn't. I've been using, I guess you call it, the Manual DC offset Removal tool. However, when songs open or end, I often see the VU bar rise, GENERALLY at a low frequency. I (for the first ...

Re: Re-encoding MP3s following edit

If I edit an MP3 file and then re-save it, do the lossy artifacts accumulate as a result of re-encoding? I do it all the time. Compare both, see what you hear, if anything. Some good to fair remastering will sound ill when encoded at a lower bit rate, even when done at places like Sterling Sound. J...

Re: Is it possible to measure signal to noise ratio with Gol

Is it possible to measure signal-to-noise ratio at some point in a recording with Goldwave? Though I doubt this will ever be scientifically proven, but I used to encode a ton of (96kbps) MP3 music snippets from Wave files. Some sounded poor while others still sounded fine. I'm GUESSING it is tough ...

Re: Is there a way to get Avg Volume for each of batch o fil

I have a batch of files that we programatically matched the volume of. I want to make sure they are properly volume-matched. I see that GW can show the avg Volume (with Volume Match). I'd like to get a list of files and their avg volume so I can see whether they are all pretty close. (I realize tha...

Re: Record in stereo from mono output cassette player?

This guy hasn't even been back to look at the responses, let alone acknowledge them. I love when that happens. Edit: 26 Dec. They really need a little warning sign that says, "This guy asked the same question on 10 different forums and isn't coming back here." Then I wouldn't have to wast...

[quote="DougDbug"]Sorry Tristan, I DID misread your post... I thought you found a "Stereoize" effect for Audacity. I found a Studio Talk Fabricating Plug-in *smile* ... Seriously, while there have been other "stereo" mixes of this song, maybe with a portion of th...

Re: About Stereo vs Mono ....

This topic may be of interest to those of you thinking about recording and mixing music. When we produce music in the studio, we arrange it as if we're creating a stage performance. Literally. There's a left/right sound (stereo imaging) and then there's a front/back sound (depth reverb) . In the mi...

Re: recording computer clock with audio signal?

I have done what you want to do by recording one of the radio time & frequency standards such as WWV on 15 Mhz on the right channel, using a communications receiver, and the audio signal to be checked recorded on the left. You must also have your PC clock linked to (time-a.nist.gov). Do this by...
