Previous versions of GW could use the lame encoder or blade, but 5.08 uses lame_enc.dll. It must reside in the windows/system folder.

First thing to try is: Make sure you have the usb box selected as the record device AND as the volume device (on volume tab). Still not working? Well, this is not the most original solution, but..... Try uninstalling GW & the Eiderol software. Reinstall the Eiderol prg 1st....verify it works, th...

There's a Sonic Foundry (oops, sorry, Sony) plugin called Clipped Peak Restoration that might be helpful with what you're trying to do. Look & ye shall find.

It may be that NetZero's software has changed the file association of wav files....check in Tools/Folder/File Types & see if the wav file association has changed at all. It also may be something in Internet Options/Advanced. Make sure that Don't display online media content in the Media bar IS c...

This may be a silly question, but you never know....bear with me.
When you create the New file to record into, how big is it? You're not, uh, creating a 2 second file, are ya?

Distortion Problems
Chris could explain the math, but suffice to say that these noise reduction methods sometimes add artifacts to the sound, like phasing & "hollow"-sounding audio. I try to isolate JUST the pop or click & run the effect over it, rather than applying it to the whole file. Hiss reducti...

Could not write to file. No storage available or device . .
Go to Options/Storage. Do you have "RAM" or "Hard drive" selected for temp storage? A huge mp3 will decompress to multi-gigs, so use the hard drive for temp storage.

Create an empty file in GW, big enough to record the stream....set up the params to match the stream as closely as possible (bitrate, etc.).
Choose "What U Hear" or "Stereo mix" as your recording source, click Record, start your stream playing.....& there you are.

You didn't mention what OS you use, but Win 98/Me limits file size to (I think) 4GB. A 44100 16-bit stereo wav 8 hours long would be much bigger. If you're using 2000/XP, all bets are off....no clue.

It sounds like what you need is Normalization (not you, your files ;>).
There's no Normalize command in GW that I'm aware of, but there are DX plugins that can do the trick. If I can find any shareware or freeware I'll post here. Happy hunting!

Backmasking
I don't know of any non-satanic purpose for this, but......
Reverse the file with the content you want, mix it into a music file (subtlety is key here), & watch as your brainwashed listeners do your evil bidding. Or not.

Removing vocals
Check the GW docs for a semi-effective method of removing vocals from a song. This is a problem that many have tried to tackle, but with little success.
