Lame Encoder - please help!

Post by delpino »

Hi all,

just wondering if its possible to find out the version and path of the Lame encoder
that GW uses from within GW?

Also is if possible that an old Lame encoder will lead to muffled sounds? (Version 3.93.1.0)

On my system, a search for lame_enc.dll returned this:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Goldwave\lame-enc.dll

I don't know what version it's using. If you've installed GoldWave 5.52 and allowed it to download and install LAME, I assume it's 3.98.x.

LAME has been quite good for a long time. Most of the changes over the last couple of years have nothing to do with audio quality.

What settings are you using? At a high-enough bitrate/quality setting, an MP3 sould sound identical to the original uncompressed file. (Higher bitrate = better quality = bigger files.) Try V=0 with a maximum bitrate of 320,000, or for the absolute best qualty, try a fixed bitrate of 320,000.

"Muffled" seems like it might be a low sample rate, but the default sample rate is ususally the same as the source file... So, that's probably not the issue.

Thanks Doug. You are right. The problem doesn't seem to be related to Lame.
