I am a registered user using 5.67. For years, I have used older version of Goldwave to digitize my LPs. But now, I am on on a different machine ( Dell Dimension 9200 Win 7 64bit) and am trying to record audio off youtube but no luck .. even after checkcing out some tutorials. Would appreciate any assistance.
I have no issue playing back through my line out to external speakers
I have nothing connected to line in ... just wanted to record off youtube. Is this the issue??? Do I need to run a cable from line out back to line in?? Or is it the machine that cannot record what I hear??
Under Control Panel, Sound,
- Under Playback, I see the meter going. Speakers (High Definiton Audio Device) is thr the default Device
- Under Recording, it tells me mic is not plugged in, and my defaut is Line In
Under Control Properties, Device, Record
- I have Primary Sound Capture selected.
- But when I run test is failts as is seee 'no signal detected'
- Same of course with Line in
Under Control Properties, Device, System
- I have tried Use Core Audio/WASAPI
- I have tried User Direct Sound AP
What are my next steps?
I tired downloading some "free software" solutions but they are all quite cumbersome, and install so much crap on the machine.
Perhaps the only solution here is to wait and hope that a future version of reliable GoldWave could simply record what I hear.... perhaps a future version would include the equivalent of the "free software" !!

...but can with other s/w
To my last point, I just downloaded Total Recorder. Very clean install, and works out of the box!
So the right software can handle it...it would be great not to have to buy two products for audio recording. Great feture for the next version of Goldwave!

Re: Cannot record off Youtube
I've been saying this for months...
The "Stereo Mix" option in Windows 7 is pretty much dead. I believe you can get lucky and find drivers for older cards that supports it; but on the majority of machines I've found, it's either no longer listed or just plain doesn't work.
I think a major part of this is because of the way WASAPI/Core uses a shared mode by default.
Total Recorder, Virtual Audio Cable...those things are needed now for such tasks.

Download Youtube video by Free Studio 5's Free YouTube Download from dvdvideosoft.com. You get both video and audio channels. You can use any software such as Adobe Premier to retrieve audio only.
Re: Cannot record off Youtube
Hi,
I am also having a problem recording off the net using Goldwave and Windows 7. My problem is that the only device I see is the microphone. Unlike my older computers, there is no line-in device or anything. So I simply cannot record off the internet or off any other device into Goldwave. Does anyone know a solution to this? I tried installing older Realtek drivers but it wouldn't install.

Try the "Stereo Mix" option. A good description of how to activate it is given in the following link

If your soundcard doesn't have this option then use a loop connection between line-in and line-out.
