Goldwave can't find the audio file

I've done many installations of Gw and have my registration.
When making a new install on another machine of mine, I'm getting a pop up box that
says Gw can't find the file type from a simple drag and drop. The Windows 7 install
might be slightly different in settings but should not be a factor.
My previous install has never produced such an error.
I can make a screen shot if needed.
My usual procedure is to drag an mkv file to Gw to get the audio, then save as
.wav to do my editing.
