Recording; "Cannot open device..."

Post by PeterP »

After years of making recordings in Goldwave from the Stereo Mix recording device, I now get the following error message when I try this:

"Cannot open device. The given rate, channels, or quality is not supported, or the Windows Privacy setting have block access, or the device is in use in another program."

I've tried all possible combinations of sampling rate, quality and shared/not shared to no avail. I wonder if the latest update to Windows 10 has something to do with this. Any thoughts on chasing down the cause?

Output from the Control/System/Information path follows:

Computer:
Windows 10 Home, 64-bit (10.0, build 17134) / Windows 10 Home (10.0, build 17134)
GoldWave v6.35

Re: Recording; "Cannot open device..." -fixed-

I found the solution in the forum after posting; sorry.

It's explained here: http://goldwave.ca/forums/viewtopic.php ... 212#p21999

As explained in that posting, all I had to do was go to the Windows privacy settings and enable the microphone. This also enables the Stereo Mix input. For privacy's sake, I disabled microphone access for individual programs.

Glad to report that GoldWave is now working for me again!
