Recording Level Problem
Recording Level Problem
Several attempts to record from vinyl have failed when the record level suddenly jumps to maximum w/o user input. In each case the level control in the tool remains the same but the interface suddenly shows complete saturation on both tracks. Soundcard is M-audio USB. Ideas?

Re: Recording Level Problem
Is the USB device connected to a hub or is it directly connected to the computer? Some USB hubs do not work correctly with audio devices. Also check for any loose connections or broken cables. If the device has a mic/line level switch, make sure it is firmly set to line. Install all patches and driver updates.

Recording Level Problem
I am not using a hub and have tried both your suggestions and still have the problem. When the meters go to peak level, the sound is nothing but static. Also, when recording, in every 15 minutes of the saved file, the sound suddenly speeds up for about 10 seconds or so and then drops back to normal. Are there any known issues with either WinXP or the M-audio Audiophile USB?

Re: Recording Level Problem
Does enabling the "Alternative playback..." option under the Device tab (press the F11 key) help? If not, you may have to contact M-Audio technical support to see if they have a solution.
