Running out of RAM

Hello:

I'm a little new to VideoMeld, but have been pretty successful working with it so far. Ran into a problem today, thought.

My system includes an 8-core AMD processor, 16 gigs ram, 4 gigs video card. 250 gig SSD.
Version 1.55....
We use it for CAD mostly. The only programs running were VideoMeld and File explorer. Windows 8.1/64-bit.
I have one 30 minute 1080p file I'm attempting to color correct.
About 5 minutes into melding to a video file, I notice that task manager reports VideoMeld using 14 gigs of ram. Shortly after this, Windows reports that my system is low on memory, and offers to close VideoMeld. I cancelled that, and within a few seconds, Windows crashed, closing everything, and requiring a reboot.

Is there anything I can do with this, or must I get more RAM (assuming my motherboard will allow that)?

thanks

Update:

Pulled 8 gig from another system. It seemed to last a bit longer, but still crashed well before completing. Is there any hope that going up to 32 gig of RAM will work?

It seems to run in cycles, ram increase to 96%, major disk activity and ram drop to 80%. Gradual increase, disk, and each time the peak is higher, until Windows shuts it down. After the meld to video stops, the program continues to use 12 gigs of memory....

Well, doing the color fixing in 2 minute pieces is a bunch of work, but I've been able to manage it. We still use a whole LOT of ram doing it, and I have to restart VideoMeld after each one, as starting with 20 gigs of RAM in use doesn't leave enough to process a 2 minute segment.

An update was released today that greatly reduces memory usage.

I will download it now.... I don't think I have any more color correction to do on this project, but hope it works...

thanks

The latest version does seem to use less ram, and retain much less. I've not needed to do further color correction, so can't comment on the original problem, but what I see looks good.

Well, I needed to do some additional correction, and ran out of RAM again. It's far better, but still not "fixed". Hit 14 gigs memory in use, and died.

What effects are you using in the project? Does the memory problem still occur if you remove the effects? Do you notice memory usage increases over time when previewing the video?

It would be helpful to know if the memory problem is related to the effects or if it is just related to the encoding of the melded video file.

Effects in use: Contrast and color.

There's no problem at all without the effects, and indeed the amount of memory in use increases over time during the "meld to video file" process. If the clips are small, it seems better, but melding an 8 minute video and adding a little contrast and color correction is the problem.

Previewing doesn't have a problem, only meld to video file.....

thanks

VideoMeld seems to be using a stable about of RAM on my system when using thr Brightness/Contrast and Colour Levels effects, but I'll continue to look into the problem. Are you melding as MP4?
