Icons for Time View Disabled / Grayed Out

Post by joeg123 »

The GoldWave icons for setting the time view (10 minutes, 1 minute, etc.) are disabled and there appears to be no way to restore them on any file you've edited. You can zoom in just fine. Even the right-click menu for the the time view is disabled. The issue occurs when you use trim on both ends. Used GoldWave for years and never had this issue. Computer has Version 6.30 on the latest build of Windows 10.

Do things work normally in 6.28?
I don't want to read the manual either, but, then, it isn't my problem, is it?

No, they didn't. I just upgraded to 6.30 tonight in the hopes it was a software glitch. It worked in 5.55. It's like trimming the end of the file causes both the cues that are further along in the track to disappear and the time view to not know where the end of the track is.

Mm. OK. I was having trouble with 6.30 and switched back to 6.28 and everything went back to normal. Scratch that idea.

I was reading on Gearslutz about Win10 updates screwing up audio programs. I don't know if that's what happened in your case, though.

I'll see if I can duplicate the issue predictably. It does work for certain uses of the trim command. I think the app has trouble readjusting the beginning and ending of the track when trimming both ends, so the cues disappear and the time view doesn't know where to cue up any more. Just my theory ;)

If you trim a file so that its total duration is less than 10 minutes or 1 minute, then those items are disabled (because they are not valid for shortened file). You can still use View | All to view the entire file.

Thank you for your reply.

My recordings are generally longer (from 20 minutes on up to 2.5 hours) and this occurred when I began trimming short amounts off the recording. I use the smaller views such as 10 seconds. Yet the icons (even for 10 seconds) were disabled when this issue occurs.

In addition, my cue points fell off the majority of the balance of the recording (even though that section was not involved in the trimming.) Once that file has been trimmed and saved, the time view icons no longer work for that recording no matter what the length and the cues are not recoverable.

I have reinstalled Windows 10 and 6.28 from a system image backup. It's working now. If it begins to misbehave again, I will let you know and will post the exact steps that caused the issue.

Hopefully it' was a Windows OS issue :)
