Convert Multi-Channel to Single Channel

Post by jangotrick »

Hello everyone,

New to this forum but pretty familiar with Goldwave and have got stuck on something that I am unable to resolve.

I recorded a vocal in two channels (left and right) and now only want the vocals to be saved in a left channel file. I have tried going to EDIT > CHANNEL > SELECT CHANNEL > SAVE AS but still get the multi-channel voice.

I have also tried going to STEREO settings and converting the file to Mono Left and saving it as a new file, but still hear both channels.

I have also tried creating a new Mono File, copying the original file after deselecting one channel and selecting Overwrite, but same problem.

Not sure what is happening but any help will be appreciated.

There's more than one way to do it, but this will work -

Edit -> Channel and un-check left.
Hit the Del key (or Edit -> Delete, etc.) to delete the unwanted right channel.

Edit -> Channel, check left and uncheck right
Edit -> Copy (or click the Copy tool, etc.)
Edit -> Channel, check right an uncheck left
Edit -> Paste. (Now you have the wanted originally-left vocals in both channels.)

You can now save-as mono or stereo.

...Or, you can you just leave one side silent before making a mono file but you'll get half-volume and you might want to re-open the file and Maximize volume.

Thanks very much. The delete process worked.

Many thanks for your quick help and much appreciated. Have a good weekend.
