Re: Difference between marker and Play Cursor positions?
I find the best way to remove a pop is to smooth out the waveform by hand. You can do this with the mouse if you zoom in sufficiently to be able to see the individual samples - the cursor changes form. Then you don't get any sudden change of amplitude (which is usually what causes a pop)

Re: Sustain a note
Don't give up too easily. I've done quite a lot of stuff like that with Goldwave. Main question: for how long is the sound - note, chord whatever - that you want to prolong, sustained in the original? If it's more than 500ms or so there's a lot you can do with time machine crossfade etc. Give us a s...

Why not make a new seperate recording, then copy/paste it in where you want it.

Re: GW acting nutty under Windows 8.1
More recently I tried to upgrade again when you couldn't do this for free, but there was some geeky back door at Microsoft where you could still do it (for free). This didn't work again, and there was some explanation given for this along the lines of "your computer's hardware won't allow this...

You can still upgrade to Windows 10 without losing your own files free (I doubt if your computer has the hardware for Windows 11)

Re: Is there way to fix "wobbly" sound of old radio?
I'm making a pitch tracker in a program called Bidule. Works quite well though still needs some tweaks. If you let me have one of your radio programmes I'll show you what it can do.
(Bidule is a music proram "host" that costs about £100 but you can trial it free for a limited time)

Re: Is there way to fix "wobbly" sound of old radio?
Sounds as though it just might be an interesting project, which would need the use of several programs. If there is a constant background noise of some kind, e.g. whistle or hum, you could isolate it using the Goldwave Noise Reduction - find an obviously wobbly bit, estimate the approximate frequenc...

Presumably -1 to +1 just means your main window scale is set to Normalised.
Your sound is obviously very quiet. Maximise it before you look at its spectrum. You can always Undo afterwards.

Re: Not quite sure how to even ask this question as I'm new to GW
If your illness is limiting your activities, you might well get a lot of satisfaction from boning up on sound science and sound processing. Particularly if you happen to have some ancient recordings on disc or tape that could be improved with a bit of processing, or indeed a nephew who's trying to l...

Re: Not quite sure how to even ask this question as I'm new to GW
Could you tell us exactly what you've been tasked to do? (without any jargon at all.) Is it an assessment of MP3 compression? Thing about digital sound is it's just a sequence of numbers, and if you mix a track with itself you'll just double each of the numbers, which you'll then have to reduce in s...
