Could not write to file. No storage available or device . .

Go to Options/Storage. Do you have "RAM" or "Hard drive" selected for temp storage? A huge mp3 will decompress to multi-gigs, so use the hard drive for temp storage.

recording from the net

Create an empty file in GW, big enough to record the stream....set up the params to match the stream as closely as possible (bitrate, etc.).
Choose "What U Hear" or "Stereo mix" as your recording source, click Record, start your stream playing.....& there you are.

huge file

You didn't mention what OS you use, but Win 98/Me limits file size to (I think) 4GB. A 44100 16-bit stereo wav 8 hours long would be much bigger. If you're using 2000/XP, all bets are off....no clue.

making diff volumes uniform

It sounds like what you need is Normalization (not you, your files ;>).
There's no Normalize command in GW that I'm aware of, but there are DX plugins that can do the trick. If I can find any shareware or freeware I'll post here. Happy hunting!

Backmasking

I don't know of any non-satanic purpose for this, but......

Reverse the file with the content you want, mix it into a music file (subtlety is key here), & watch as your brainwashed listeners do your evil bidding. Or not.

Removing vocals

Check the GW docs for a semi-effective method of removing vocals from a song. This is a problem that many have tried to tackle, but with little success.

Recording LP's

You didn't mention how your turntable is connected to your computer, but there should be some kind of amp in between....home stereo output should be fine. Because of the way LP's (and 45's) were mastered, you must add some bass response to avoid tinny-sounding recordings. Check your levels (watch fo...

Messed-up Control Window

Looks like your OpenGL is loused up. Goldwave uses OpenGL to diplay the Control Window graphics. Check/reinstall your video card drivers & see if it helps any. Also, some video screen capture programs mess up DX & OpenGL if you don't reset the capture settings when quitting the program. Had that pro...

killing those spikes

I'd try it this way: select JUST the table-slapping noise in Goldwave & copy it to the clipboard. Make sure to re-select the whole file after copying. Go to Filter/Noise Reduction, choose Use Clipboard under Reduction Envelope, then choose the preset called "clipboard noise print". This should kill ...

right click open/edit

I've used that technique to add an "Edit" option to all audio types, like wav, mp3, aif, etc. Right click, select "Edit", & the file opens in GW, ready to be worked on. Shweeeeet.

recording from the cable box

Sounds like a USB audio interface might be what you're looking for. Also, you should experiment with getting the cable audio from your VCR or DVD rather than directly from the converter.
