Goldwave Chris: Thanks for the reply - by the number of "views" of the topic and lack of comments, I realized early on that this question was likely out of most people's experience; certainly mine. The native file extension for Powertracks files is SEQ (for sequencer), and they can contain...

Bitrate Baffled

I use a sequencer program called Powertracks. Each midi track is recorded (rendered to wave) separately using a hard synth (digital piano) for the various instruments. Audio settings in Powertracks are set at: 24 bit and 48 kHz. Goldwave is set to record 24 bit, and "Options / File Format Optio...

I've removed mine using Start/Contro Panel/Add/Remove Programs with apparently no problems.

Chip: I'm interested as to what method you did use. I would rip the tracks from the CD using Goldwave, (which is an automatic process that rips all tracks), then save to whatever format I wished. However, I've never had occasion to save in the U-Law format. I believe that the files on a CD are CDA f...

Thor:

It would require a very large recording to run out of hard disk space, but there is another option to record to RAM. I have 2.0 GB so I use the record to RAM method to keep the hard drive from working.

Ahmad:

Ask Don more questions - he works with voice whereas I work with instrumental music (mainly piano).

There may be others that can offer some advice on lessening the effects of excessive reverb (echo).

Rocker: Just a few comments: At the moment, I am playing a song in Goldwave and Goldwave is recording it. This is not recommended as this may involve an Audio to Digital conversion which inevitably degrades the signal somewhat (even a highly rated soundcard would). However, having said that, you did...

Thor: I've been using unbounded recording for a few years and it works flawlessly. Under "record mode" mine is set to "unbounded" "level activated" is checked Threshold = 0.001 Duration = 2.50 Prebuffer = 1.00 When Goldwave "hears" the sound, it starts recordi...

Good advice Doug: There may be another problem depending upon the amount of difference between L/R channels: I've looked at hundreds of wave files with Goldwave (mine and commercially recorded songs) and have noticed that the L/R balance is seldom the same (unless the recording has been heavily comp...

I would agree with the others. If one considers what echo or reverberation is, it may be easier to understand: Echo is severe or heavy reverberation, or in other words, reverberation taken to extreme is echo. Both are caused by the difference it takes for sound to travel from the source to your ears...

Don: I wouldn't think that the preset REDUCE PEAKS would affect voice too much - I have applied it to some tracks of midi choir with no noticeable affect (at least to me). I had stated that I use the default values for multiplier and threshold, but in fact, I adjust the THRESHOLD or the overall leve...

Don: Wow, that was fast - I was on the other topic and when I returned you had already replied. I too just use gentle comrpession: Reduce peaks with settings at -6.0 and -6.0 or so and zero values for attack and release. With any values other than zero for attack/release, the piano notes are clipped...

Don: No, I'm using an EMU 1820M. It has mastering grade converters and is a real sweetheart of a card. Even with my diminished hearing, I noticed the difference between it and my (former) Extigy (by Creative). The particular card I have is the most expensive of their cards, but they have other with ...
