I'd guess your laptop has a low-quality soundchip (a low-quality analog-to-digital converter.) Normally, I would assume that the encoding (to the streamed-audio format) would be the weakest link. The analog-to-digital conversion should be the 2nd weakest link. The PCM (wave) encoding is almost perfe...

You can use Edit->Mix . But actually, I don't think that GoldWave is designed for real-time interactive multi-channel mixing. If you are going to do lots of this stuff, and more than a few instruments, you should robably look for something else. Sorry. I can't recommend another program, but that's n...

I wouldn't say you need headphones. Headphones do make it easy to hear background noise. And, a good pair of headphones is cheaper than a good set of speakers. If you are doing any processing or filtering... anything that changes the sound, you need a system that accurately reproduces the sound, and...

I can't find anything that sounds like it is instructions for recording. OK, I'll try to get you started... Tool->Control . This will open the control window, which has Record, Play, Stop, Volume , etc. If you right-click the red record button, you will get some options. I usually set it to unbound...

Did you try Effect->Filter->Noise Reduction or Effect->Filter->Pop/Click ? You might also try some equalization... reducing the highest and lowest frequencies which are out of the voice range Effect->Filter->Equalizer . You can also use Effect->Volume->Shape to turn the volume all they way down when...

I think GoldWave converts everything to PCM format. But, wait for an answer from Chris (at GoldWave).
If Chris confirms that, take a look at mp3Surgeon.

TWEETER POWER RATINGS - Supertweeters that can handle 200 watts at 30KHz can be purchased for $10.00. Beware! Tweeter power ratings are based on power to the entire speaker system, including the woofer. You can burn-out just about any tweeter by hooking-up a synthesizer and generating continuous hi...

Joysman, Both GoldWave and Pro Tools should be perfectly happy with any standard wave format. But, GoldWave is only stereo, and I assume that Pro Tools can handle mulit-channel wave files (5.1 surround, etc.). The only formats I've personally used with GoldWave are 44.1kHz 16 - bit (for CDs), and 48...

:( Bummer. It it's a recording problem, I don't think you can fix that. If it's a playback problem, borrow a different cassette player. It's been a long time since I've done anything with cassettes, but I remember something... I remember bending-out the little (brass?) spring with the felt pad on it...
