I'm still running an older codec entitled:

l3codecp.acm

Is it still considered reasonably good?

By defaut there is no confirm box if the sound already has a file name, though you can enable that. If you click save your sound file is saved and your undo cache for that file is instantly cleared, effectively "deleting" all of the steps you made up to that point. I'm not closing the pro...

Well, I thought someone would have answered this already (I haven't been around for about two years, and am a bit rusty). As far as I know, SAVE means you've over-written the file with the changes. Fortunately, with the SAVE command, a box pops up entitled, "CONFIRM", and there is still th...

First of all, a midi file is not a music file - it is a set of instructions to a midi instrument, telling what notes to play when, etc. A mide file can be played and will produce music, but either soft synths or a hard synth are required to make the sound. There is no music in a midi file, only the ...

Claus: If I may ask a few questions: 1. Your post indicates that you are using the RAM option, please confirm. 2. My main question is: do you have enough RAM to adequately handle files of this size while doing various conversions/tasks? Your post mentions a 500 MB file size - this is very large. Rec...

On the Vista thing: From partaking in other music related forums, my impressions is that most people don't or won't change operating systems until they have been thoroughly tested. On the matter of Microsoft, I seem to recall that they tend to release new OS's before they are actually user ready and...

Anything recorded from a phone is not going to sound as good as recording a person's voice directly.

Telephone quality isn't terribly high.

Thanks for stepping up and being first Don. I read the post last night, and I wondered what is difficult?

Like you, I do it quite frequently (partly because I have a very good soundcard), and it works very well.

Question: what is the torture?

That's a good lesson for all of us that have the UNDO set at high levels (I'm guilty). Thankfully my wave files are "normal", running the "standard" three minutes, plus or minus or about 30 meg or so.

This has been one of the most frequently discussed topics; I would first recommend doing a "search" using "hiss" or "remove hiss", or somesuch term. Here's one thread I found in a few seconds - there are dozens: http://goldwave.ca/forums/viewtopic.php?t=564&highligh...

Ray: OK, now I understand - somehow I didn't quite follow what you were asking. What you want to do is remove a short piece of the wave file. The only method I know of is going to be tedious: 1. Zoom in on each area of the wave that has zero amplitude - zoom way in. 2. I have my mouse set up so left...

Ray: Interesting question - removing silence is a bit of an oxymoron (if you're not familiar with the word look it up - it's not an insult). Silence is the absence of noise/sound/music, all being the same thing from a physics point of view, so I'm a bit confused as to how one would remove something ...

This probably isn't the best forum to ask that question. I would suggest you try: http://studio-central.com/phpbb/ First of all, this question is a quagmire. There is no best soundcard, and there are almost hundreds of choices on the market. I would recommend the following approach: 1. What level of...

Theoretically one could restore the missing frequencies if one knew what they were. But since no one knows what they were . . . . . . If you cut the legs off a pair of trousers, they can be sewn on again (albeit with an ugly seam), but when you REMOVE some frequencies, you can't get them back, becau...
