Converting .mkv files to .mp3 files

Post by rbendtzen »

Hi.

Is it possible to convert .mkv Matroska video files to .mp3 audio files directly using GoldWave? I tried converting a bunch of .mkv files to .mp3 files using the Batch Processing feature and the files came out all staticky instead of having actual audio on them.

Is there a way for GoldWave to convert .mkv files to .mp3 files at all and being able to have any audio come out of them other than static? Or will I need to use another converter to convert .mkv files to .mp3 files? If so, do you have any suggestions?

Please let me know. Thank you very much.

Note that MKV is not a specific format. It's a "container" that can hold any audio/video formats.

You'll probably need a different converter. Try TAudioConverter. Once you set up your output format and location it's just drag, drop, and click, and you can drag-in multiple files at once.

If TAudioConvert doesn't work Audacity with the optional FFmpeg library can open almost any audio format (or open the audio from almost any audio/video file) and then it can export to MP3.

If you want to edit the files, convert to WAV before opening in GoldWave to minimize the generations of lossy compression. Then, convert to MP3 ONCE as the last step.

Hi.

Thanks for the suggestions for TAudioConverter or Audacity. I tried TAudioConverter and it works great. I'm amazed at the speed the files are converted. It's mostly less than ten minutes or just about ten minutes.

I tried to use TAudioConverter to convert a .ram file to an MP3 file. But I couldn't. The .ram file didn't even show up in the folder of files where the .ram file is located when looking for it with TAudioConverter. I also tried using GoldWave in looking for a .ram file to convert to an MP3 file. But, once again, the .ram file did not show up in the list of files when searching for it with GoldWave. Do any of you have suggestions on how I can convert .ram files to .MP3 files?

Please let me know. Thank you very much.
