DRM Protected Files -- Help loading in GW

Post by jdeligiannis »

I own a CD with protected content. I've never seen a CD like this before. No CD ripper was able to extract the audio from it. When I load it, it opens up an interactive menu, by which I have the option to copy all songs to my computer. I did that. They copied in WMA format. When I look at the properties, the License tab says "Protected Content."

NOTE that the files do work with WMP or Winamp and other players (meaning I do have an active license for the songs), but don't work with editing software.

The problem I'm having with these files is that Goldwave cannot load them. It simply doesn't recognize them as music files. Is there any way to go around this, WITHOUT re-recording the audio?

Can you return the CD to get a copy without protection?

Just out of curiosity, do you get "lossless" copies of the songs? If you view the properties of the song in Windows Media Player, it should tell you the encoding quality used.

Chances are if the cd he's got now has protection, any other copy he gets has protection, ules he bought it a few years ago.

In the case of these discs (which can be ripped but I won't mention how because that's a dmca violation) the wma files included are generally something like 96kbps or some other lossy bitrate.

Other than that, I don't want to say anymore and cause another lega problem.
