Is this possible with Goldwave?

Post by malcolm13 »

A Friend of mine and I have books recorded on cassette tape.

These tapes are tone indexed, there is a low pitch beep at each page so using cu and review on a tape machine we are able to navigate through the book more quickly.

Is it possible in Goldwave to locate these beeps in a recording and insert a cu Point so the file can be split into more manageable bits?

Thanks

No, I don't think GoldWave can do that.

But, if the cue-tone is lower in pitch the voice, you might be able to isolate it "manually" to more-easily find the chapters....

Make a copy of the file, and apply a low-pass filter so only the cue-tone remains (or so that the voice is greatly reduced). You'll have to experiment to find the right cutoff frequency. (Maybe start with 100Hz?)

If this works, you should be able to see the cue-tone in the waveform, and you can note the time-position (which will be the same as your original un-filtered file).
