Amplify sound

Post by elegant »

I've been trying to make something of digitized footage of an old vhs-tape made during our wedding.

The visual quality is acceptable. The sound is there, but nowhere near listenable. Even when I set the sound to 200%.

Is there a way to somehow amplify the sound more to make it louder?

I'll put music under most footage, but it would be nice to hear us say 'I do'.

You should be able to do something with the audio track in Goldwave. In the audio track in your Videomeld project, unlink the audio track (the paperclip symbol) and open it in Goldwave. Now you can edit the audio here. If you have not used Goldwave before, the help files are good. I suggest that you make a copy of the file and experiment with that first. You can try the noise reduction and amplify volume on the "I do" of your section only. When you have done, save it with another name and then go back to Videomeld and place the new audio track into a new Videomeld track so that you still preserve the original. Mute the "original" track and try your new one. It might take some time getting it right but you should be able to sort it out. Don't try for perfection, sometimes imperfections make for a better overall result in an old movie. Good luck. P.S. Experiment with a copy of the original files so you do not lose them.

You might already know this, but if you hit the "F7" key you will see a blue line appear on the tracks. Use the mouse to drag this line down to fade the video or audio in and out. Mouse clicking on the blue line inserts an anchor point where you click. I can see you being able to have a third track with your background music in it and then fading it in or out as you wish. The (modified original) audio can stay linked to the video and therefore you could fade that out whenever you wish. I hope this will help you. Happy Christmas.

I did not know that. Thanks. I love videomeld. The sheer amount of options is a bit overwhelming sometimes

Happy christmas to you too
